July 27-29, 2008 Maple Tour
The western Finger Lakes Region will be the focus of the 2008 Maple Tour in July. The Tour will be based in Canandaigua in Ontario County on beautiful Canandaigua Lake.

An area that most may think of for its grape growing and wine making has several maple operations looking forward to welcoming Tour participants.

The schedule includes a trade show beginning on Sunday, July 27, tours on Monday and Tuesday July 28 and 29, the annual awards banquet on Monday evening, and a farewell breakfast on Tuesday.

Taking Stock and Looking Ahead: Benchmarking New York State Maple Sugar Production
Cornell University Department of Natural Resources researchers have produced a statistical report of NY maple production, Taking Stock and Looking Ahead: Benchmarking New York State Maple Sugar Production. The data are broken out by size class (# taps) and by geographical district to characterize the diversity among NY State maple producers, as well as to facilitate comparisons among similarly positioned operations. The report is based on a detailed mail survey of NY maple producers and is part of Cornell's effort to support maple production and sustainable rural development in New York. The report was funded by the Cornell University Agricultural Experiment Station. Randall, Sage Honored

Eric Randall (left with Ray Christensn) of Alexander and Roger Sage (far right) of Warsaw have been honored with two of the most coveted recognitions in the maple industry.

Randall is the 2006 recipient of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Hubbell Award, and Sage has been inducted into the Maple Hall of Fame at the Maple Museum in Croghan.

These NYS Maple signs are approved by NY DOT for use on your sugar house or on posts along the highway. Some NYSMPA regions are now offering Association members matching funds for purchase of the logo sign. Contact your regional director for more information.
