Maple Queen and Princess Pageant
Maple Queens and Princesses for counties across New York will be chosen during a combined pageant on January 5th at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School. The contest is open to girls whose ages (as of May 18, 2008) fall between 12 to 15 for the Princess division and 16 to 24 for the Queen division. Contestants will compete for the opportunity to represent the maple industry within their home county and titles will be awarded to the top winners among young women living in any county that does not offer a separate Maple Queen pageant. Contestants will be judged on private interview, public speaking, modeling and answering a spontaneous onstage question. The winners will serve as role models and represent the local maple industry at parades and special events throughout the year. They will also advance to the state competition in May. The contestant's age must fall within the above guidelines as of May 18, 2008 at the state competition. Contestant applications are now being accepted. For an application or more information contact the pageant director, Laurie Jean Britton at 315-717-6288.

Farewell from 2006 NYS Maple Princess
In January of 2006, I was crowned Oneida County Maple Princess for the second year. Later that May, I was crowned NYS Maple Princess. My experiences as Maple Princess have been very exciting, from parades to workshops and tours to tapping, I would say that I have had a very enjoyable year. At first maple was just an activity at school, but through this position, I have learned so much more. Now, spreading the knowledge of maple is incorporated in my everyday life. When I enjoy my pancakes on Sunday morning, I think of all the labor, and extremely hard work that people put into that little bottle of maple syrup. Now, when I eat maple syrup, I take in and remind myself of all of my “maple memories” that will last a lifetime.
Thank you –
Tracee Schiebel, NYS Maple Princess
